“What is the difference between stripping and burlesque?
Well, if you ask me, I would say that there isn’t technically a difference! Burlesque dancers WERE strippers! They used this term in burlesque. So burlesque is the show, and the dancers were strippers. Okay, so I know that what you really want to hear is what makes me different from a modern day pole dancer/stripper. Well, we are all one in the same, but burlesque is where this whole idea of removing clothes to music in front of an audience started, and pole dancing is where it has evolved to. I refuse to say that I’m “classier” or “better” than any other exotic dancer. I essentially do the same thing – perhaps with more spectacle, and with retro flair. I like the fact that burlesque alway has been risque, and I am confident with myself enough to say that I am proud to be a stripper. “

I personally think everyone should be involved in advocacy for whatever cause they believe in. This is why I encourage everyone in Texas (and maybe elsewhere) to consider being a part of the Texans for the Arts organization in some form or another. It’s simple math, the more money there is, the more organizations can get a piece of the pie. At the very least, lobbying or petitioning is an important part of the democratic process. We have a voice and we need to use it. With that said, check out what they have to say and if you like it, support them. If not, I would at least encourage you to see as many dance shows as possible to support the hard working artists who only want to share their passion with you.

Now, it’s really hard for me to write about the audition process because it is just the audition process. All I know is that I know the Lion Star Wars girl in the Denver audition. She’s my college dance department’s office girl. She rocks.

Push Comes to Shove

There are some inalienable truths in dance. One of these truths is that Twyla Tharp is awesome. Twyla Tharp has done it all. She has choreographed for modern companies, ballet company, Broadway shows, and movies not to mention awards in most of those arenas. She accomplished all of this through her internal drive and work ethic. I think that she truly is an inspiration for aspiring dancers and choreographers especially in this day and age. She is relentless.

As for the book, the book is hilarious and well written. It also puts into context the woman behind the choreography. She holds no punches and admits many of her own faults without sounding
